ChanelMedallion Bag Brooch

Q: What exactly is this piece?
A: A vintage Chanel costume jewellery brooch in gold‑tone metal featuring a medallion engraved with Chanel branding and Paris address, with a dangling quilted bag charm. It is made in France, fastens with a pin‑back closure, and measures approximately 7.5 × 3.5 × 0.5 cm.

Q: Is the brooch solid gold?
A: No. Chanel brooches in the costume jewellery line are crafted from metal with a gold‑tone finish rather than solid precious metal. Unless specified as fine jewellery, Chanel brooches should be treated as plated/metal pieces. This item is gold‑tone metal.

Q: Will a brooch leave holes or snag my clothes?
A: Pins can mark delicate fabrics. For best results, attach brooches to sturdier weaves like tweed, wool, denim or structured cotton; guide the pin through a seam or facing where possible; and use a small piece of felt on the inside as a support. On very delicate knits or silk, consider a magnetic or pin‑saver back to avoid piercing the fabric.

Q: Can I wear it on a handbag, scarf or hat?
A: Yes—brooches are versatile on lapels, coats, hats and fabric bag straps. Avoid piercing delicate or smooth leathers; instead, pin through a fabric strap, a reinforced area, or use a magnet. Remove the brooch before storing your bag to prevent imprinting.

Q: What does the “31 Rue Cambon Paris” reference mean?
A: 31 Rue Cambon is Chanel’s historic flagship address in Paris and a long‑standing house emblem. Medallions and charms referencing this address are a classic Chanel motif.

Q: How should I care for a gold‑tone Chanel brooch?
A: Keep it dry and free from cosmetics, perfume and lotions; put jewellery on last and remove first. After wear, gently wipe with a soft, dry cloth and store separately in a cool, low‑humidity place away from direct sunlight. Avoid abrasive polishing, immersion cleaners and ultrasonic machines.

Q: How secure is the closure and how should I fasten it?
A: It uses a traditional pin‑back. Insert the pin horizontally on a stable part of the garment, ensure the clasp is fully engaged, and consider a rubber pin‑saver or a magnet for extra security if you’ll be moving a lot.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: This listing notes no accessories are included. Everything provided is always listed under Accessories—if it isn’t listed, it isn’t included.

Q: What is the condition and what should I expect of vintage plating?
A: Rated Very Good, with hardware shiny and light surface scratches consistent with gentle vintage wear. Gold‑tone finishes can develop minor marks over time; follow the care tips above to preserve the colour and shine.

Q: How do you authenticate Chanel jewellery at A Retro Tale?
A: Our specialists perform multi‑point checks of construction, materials, engravings/signature plates, pin and clasp hardware, and overall craftsmanship, referencing known period details. We stand behind the authenticity of every item we sell and are happy to provide additional photos on request.
