Q: What is the Rolex Lady-Datejust 26mm Ref. 79173 (Year 2000)?
A: It’s a classic two-tone Lady-Datejust in stainless steel and 18ct yellow gold (Rolesor) with a 26mm Oyster case, fluted gold bezel, silver Jubilee dial with Arabic numerals, a date window at 3 o’clock beneath the Cyclops lens, and the comfortable Jubilee bracelet. This example comes from the year 2000 and includes its original box and certificate.

Q: Which movement powers this watch and does it have Quickset?
A: The Ref. 79173 is powered by the self-winding Rolex Calibre 2235, a chronometer-certified movement. It features a Quickset date, allowing you to adjust the date independently via the crown without advancing the hands through a full 24-hour cycle.

Q: Does it have a sapphire crystal?
A: Yes. The 79173 is fitted with a scratch‑resistant sapphire crystal and the signature Cyclops magnifier over the date for easy legibility.

Q: Is the watch water-resistant?
A: The Lady-Datejust’s Oyster case was originally rated to 100 metres. However, as this is a vintage piece, water resistance cannot be guaranteed without a current pressure test. We recommend treating it as splash‑resistant only and avoiding swimming or showering unless the seals have been professionally tested and replaced if needed.

Q: How do I set the time and Quickset date?
A: Unscrew the crown counter‑clockwise. Position 1 is for manual winding. Pull gently to Position 2 to adjust the date (Quickset). Pull to Position 3 to set the time. After setting, push the crown in and screw it down firmly. Avoid changing the date between roughly 9 pm and 3 am to protect the mechanism.

Q: Will this watch fit my wrist?
A: This specific bracelet is sized to fit a wrist circumference of up to 17 cm. The Jubilee bracelet can be shortened by removing links; increasing the size may require sourcing additional links.

A: No. Rolex discontinued the 26mm Lady‑Datejust and introduced the larger 28mm Lady‑Datejust in 2015. The 26mm models are now available only on the pre‑owned market and are prized for their traditional proportions.
