ChanelCoco Mark Brooch

Q: Is this Chanel Coco Mark Brooch authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What is it made from? Is it solid gold?
A: This is Chanel fashion jewellery crafted from gold‑plated metal in a quilted interlocking CC design. It is not solid gold. If you’d like us to confirm any aspect of the composition for this exact piece, just ask.

Q: What are the measurements and how big will it look?
A: The brooch measures approximately 4 cm (height) x 4.5 cm (width) x 1 cm (depth). It offers a classic statement size that reads clearly on lapels, coats and structured knitwear. If you’d like the exact gram weight or a photo on model for scale, we’re happy to provide it.

Q: How does it fasten and is it secure?
A: It features a traditional pin fastening on the back. For extra security, you can add a locking pin back or a small rubber stopper, and place a felt/leather backing disc inside the garment to stabilise the fabric—especially with heavier coats or delicate materials.

Q: Where can I wear it—on coats, knitwear, scarves or handbags?
A: Brooches work best on structured fabrics such as wool coats, blazers, denim and canvas. On delicate fabrics (silk, fine knits), test in an inconspicuous spot and use a backing disc to prevent pulls. You can style it on a handbag by pinning through a reinforced area or strap to avoid marking delicate leather.

Q: What hallmarks or stamps should I expect on a vintage Chanel brooch?
A: Many vintage Chanel brooches feature an oval signature plaque on the reverse stamped CHANEL, often with “Made in France” or “Made in Italy.” From the early 1990s onward, some plaques include a season or date code; earlier pieces may have dateless plaques. Placement and format vary by era. Our listing images show any marks present on this piece.

Q: Is it suitable for sensitive skin? Does it contain nickel?
A: Fashion jewellery alloys and platings may contain nickel. If you have sensitivities, consider wearing the brooch over thicker fabrics so it doesn’t contact skin directly, and discontinue use if irritation occurs.

Q: How should I care for the gold‑plated finish?
A: Keep the brooch dry and away from perfume, lotions, hairspray and hand sanitiser. After wear, gently wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasives, ultrasonic machines and chemical dips. Store it separately in a pouch or box to prevent scratches and minimise friction that can dull the finish over time.

Q: Can it be repaired, replated or converted to a pendant?
A: A competent jeweller can often tighten/straighten the pin or refresh plating at their discretion. If you’d like to wear it as a necklace, brooch‑to‑pendant converters are available; we don’t offer in‑house modifications but can suggest non‑invasive options. Note that alterations may affect originality and resale value.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included, and can I return it?
A: This brooch is in Very Good Condition with light signs of careful wear possible unless noted otherwise. This listing includes no accessories. Returns are accepted under our standard policy—please see our Returns page for eligibility, timeframes and conditions, and ensure the item is returned in the same condition received.
