HermèsClemence Evelyne III GM Bag

Q: What typically fits inside the Hermès Evelyne III GM?
A: The GM is a roomy, everyday crossbody. Most owners comfortably carry a long wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses, cosmetics pouch, a small water bottle and a tablet (including larger iPads). A4 documents usually fit vertically; some users report a slim 13-inch laptop can slide in vertically in a sleeve, though the top opening is narrower than the body, so bulky cases are not recommended. For exact capacity, please refer to the Measurements on this page.

Q: Is this the Evelyne III with the adjustable strap, and can it be worn crossbody?
A: Yes. Evelyne III introduced an adjustable canvas strap for shoulder or crossbody wear. This piece includes an adjustable, detachable shoulder strap as listed in the product information, making it easy to fine-tune the drop for comfort.

Q: What does the Hermès blind stamp Square Q indicate?
A: Square Q corresponds to a 2013 production year. Hermès used letters within a square from 1997 to 2014; the letter itself denotes the year, while other small symbols may identify the atelier or artisan.

Q: How does Clemence leather wear over time?
A: Clemence (veau taurillon) is a supple, grained calf leather known for its soft hand and ability to disguise light scratches. It does develop a relaxed, slightly slouchy silhouette and is heavier than some other Hermès leathers. To preserve structure, avoid overfilling and consider a lightweight organiser; expect normal softening with use.

Q: Does the Evelyne III have pockets or a lining inside?
A: The Evelyne III features an exterior slip pocket at the back for quick-access items. The interior is unlined suede with an open compartment and no interior zip pockets. The top closes with a leather tab and snap button; note the opening is narrower than the body by design.

Q: Which way should I wear the perforated H logo—facing out or in?
A: Historically, the perforated H faced inward because the model originated as an equestrian grooming bag with ventilation. Today, many wear it with the H facing outward for a more recognisable look—both ways are correct and purely a matter of style.

Q: Is the strap replaceable or compatible with alternative Hermès straps?
A: The strap on Evelyne bags attaches with metal hooks, so it can be detached. Many clients swap to different Hermès webbing straps for colour or length preferences. If you plan to change straps, choose a width and hardware that matches the bag’s rings and your desired drop.

Q: How should I care for Clemence leather on a daily basis?
A: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wear, keep away from rain and oils, and let any moisture air-dry naturally. Store the bag loosely stuffed in its dust bag, upright and away from direct sunlight. Use an organiser to protect the unlined interior from spills, and avoid prolonged contact with dark denim to minimise colour transfer.

Q: How do you authenticate this Hermès Evelyne?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is examined by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of leather, stitching, hardware, stamps and blind codes, against known Hermès benchmarks. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and are happy to provide additional photos or details on request.
