ChanelSmall Gabrielle Backpack

Q: What typically fits inside the Chanel Small Gabrielle Backpack?
A: With an approximate footprint of 22 × 22 × 10 cm, it’s ideal for daily essentials: a large smartphone, compact wallet or cardholder, keys, slim sunglasses in a soft case, earbuds, and a small cosmetics pouch. A 330 ml bottle or a compact umbrella can fit; a tall 500 ml bottle may protrude. Capacity can vary slightly by production year and lining—refer to the Measurements and photos on this page or ask us for a tailored fit check for this exact piece.

Q: Will it fit an iPad mini or A5 diary?
A: An iPad mini–sized device or A5 notebook generally fits, but the drawstring opening narrows at the top so bulkier cases can be tight. For certainty, compare your device dimensions with our Measurements or contact us and we’ll test the fit in this specific bag.

Q: How do the straps work and can I wear it different ways?
A: The interwoven leather‑and‑chain straps slide through grommets to cinch the top, allowing multiple carries: as a backpack, on one shoulder, or as a cross‑body sling. The chain length is fixed (not hole‑adjustable), but you can shorten the drop slightly by crossing the straps inside the bag. If you’d like advice on how it sits on you, we’re happy to help.

Q: How secure is the closure and what is the interior like?
A: This model closes with a drawstring‑style chain that tightens the top and features a red fabric lining with one internal pocket for small valuables. For commuting or travel, we recommend keeping the bag upright and using a small zip pouch for added security.

Q: What materials and hardware does this piece have, and where is it made?
A: This exact item is crafted from blue quilted calfskin leather with mixed gold‑ and silver‑tone hardware, and has a red fabric interior. The label states Made in Italy. Mixed‑metal hardware is a hallmark of the Gabrielle line and pairs easily with other jewellery tones.

Q: When was this particular bag produced?
A: The serial number begins with 24 (2487XXXX), which dates Chanel production to approximately 2017–2018. This aligns with the early years of the Gabrielle line. Feel free to ask if you’d like close‑up photos of the serial sticker and card.

Q: Is the Gabrielle Backpack still produced?
A: The Gabrielle family launched in 2017 and is widely reported to have been discontinued around 2022–2023. While occasional store sightings were mentioned during the transition, availability today is best via the pre‑loved market. We specialise in authenticated vintage and pre‑owned pieces like this one.

Q: How should I care for the calfskin and mixed‑metal hardware?
A: Keep it away from heavy rain, oils and prolonged direct sunlight. Wipe the leather and chains with a soft, dry cloth after wear; condition smooth leather sparingly with a neutral product only after testing on a discreet area. Store upright, lightly stuffed, in a breathable dust bag with the chains padded inside to avoid impressions. Be mindful around delicate knits, as chains can snag fine fibres.

Q: Is the bag heavy to carry?
A: The Small Gabrielle is compact and the structured base helps distribute weight, but chain straps can feel weighty if overfilled. Packing heavier items low and centrally improves comfort; we’re happy to provide an exact scale weight for this piece on request.

Q: What accessories are included and how is authenticity guaranteed?
A: This listing includes its authenticity card and the internal serial number tag (see “Accessories”). If an item isn’t listed there, it isn’t included. Every piece at A Retro Tale undergoes rigorous, multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts, assessing materials, stitching, hardware, stamps/serials and overall construction—we stand behind every item we sell.
