GucciHorsebit Tote Bag

Q: What typically fits inside the Gucci Horsebit Tote Bag?
A: With measurements of approximately 38 x 28 x 14 cm, this tote is spacious enough for daily essentials such as a long wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses, a small cosmetics pouch and a notebook or tablet. It may also suit slim documents or a very compact laptop, but we recommend comparing your item’s exact dimensions with the measurements on this page before purchasing.

Q: Can this bag be carried on the shoulder?
A: Yes. It has dual flat shoulder straps with an approximate handle drop of 27 cm, so it is designed to sit comfortably on the shoulder for most wearers. It does not include a separate long strap, so it is not intended to be worn crossbody.

Q: Does this tote have a zip closure?
A: No. This vintage Horsebit tote has an open top, which makes it easy to access your belongings quickly. Inside, there is one internal zip pocket for smaller valuables.

Q: What materials and details does this bag feature?
A: This piece is crafted in brown leather with gold-tone Horsebit hardware and a beige canvas lining. It is made in Italy and finished with one internal zip pocket and an open-top silhouette.

Q: What makes the Horsebit detail so iconic?
A: The Horsebit is one of Gucci’s best-known house codes. The double ring and bar motif comes from the brand’s equestrian heritage and became associated with Gucci handbags in 1955, which is why Horsebit styles are especially sought after by vintage and archival bag collectors.

Q: What is the condition of this item?
A: The overall condition is rated Very Good. The exterior shows scuffing on the edges, slight scratches and a visible spot on the leather. The interior is in Good condition with stains and marks, while the hardware remains shiny with light scratches. As with all vintage items, these signs of wear are part of the bag’s history and character.

Q: How should I care for vintage Gucci leather?
A: Wipe the leather gently with a soft, dry cloth after use and avoid rain, direct sunlight, humidity, heat and rough surfaces. Do not apply harsh cleaning or protective products, as they can alter the finish or cause marks. For storage, keep the bag lightly stuffed in a dust bag and leave the double handles down to help preserve its shape.

Q: Is any additional product information included with this item?
A: No additional extras are included with this piece. If something is not listed on the product page, please assume it is not included.

Q: How do you authenticate vintage Gucci bags?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is carefully reviewed for craftsmanship, materials, hardware, lining and construction details before it is offered for sale. If you would like more information about this specific bag, our team will be happy to help.
