Louis VuittonMonogram Bum Bag

Q: What typically fits inside the Louis Vuitton Monogram Bum Bag?
A: This style is designed for daily essentials rather than bulky items. It will generally suit a phone, compact wallet, keys, sunglasses, passport and a few small extras. If you carry a long continental wallet or larger toiletries, space will feel tighter, so please use the Measurements on this page as your guide.

Q: How can this bag be worn?
A: The Monogram Bum Bag is a versatile hands-free style that can usually be worn around the waist, across the body or on the shoulder. This piece also has a single flat top handle for hand carry. As with many Louis Vuitton bum bags, it is designed to sit fairly close to the body rather than hang low.

Q: Is this bag suitable for travel and everyday use?
A: Yes. This model is popular because it keeps essentials close and secure while leaving your hands free, which makes it practical for errands, sightseeing and travel days. It is best for light everyday packing rather than heavier loads.

Q: What does the date code MI2198 mean?
A: Louis Vuitton date codes indicate where and when a piece was made rather than serving as a unique serial number. For this bag, MI2198 points to production in France in 2018, which aligns with the country of origin shown for this item.

Q: Is the Monogram Bum Bag discontinued?
A: Yes, the original Monogram Bum Bag has been discontinued, which is one reason it remains in demand on the pre-owned market. Buying pre-loved is the main way to source this classic version today.

Q: Is patina on the leather normal?
A: Yes. Louis Vuitton's natural vachetta leather develops a darker honey-toned patina over time and can show watermarks or light marks with age and use. On this piece, the leather has a visible patina with watermarks and scuffing, which is already reflected in the condition notes.

Q: What condition is this particular bag in?
A: The overall condition is rated Very Good. Externally, the vachetta leather shows visible patina, watermarks and scuffing. Internally, there are light traces of use, and the hardware remains shiny with light scratches.

Q: Are any extra items included with this bag?
A: No extra items are included with this piece. If an original box, dust bag or other added item is not listed on the product page, it should be assumed not to be included.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is checked by in-house experts using detailed reviews of materials, construction, hardware, stamps and date-code details. We stand behind the authenticity of the pieces we sell and are happy to provide further reassurance if needed.
