ChanelCoco Mark Dangling Clip-on Earrings

Q: Are these earrings for pierced ears?
A: No. This Chanel Coco Mark pair features a clip-on closure, so they can be worn comfortably without pierced ears.

Q: Are they made of real gold?
A: These are Chanel costume jewellery earrings with gold-tone hardware, meaning a plated or gold-coloured finish over base metal rather than solid gold. Chanel reserves precious metals for its fine jewellery lines unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Q: How can I tell if vintage Chanel earrings are authentic?
A: Authentic Chanel earrings typically have a clear maker’s stamp on the back (often an oval plaque/cartouche) with CHANEL and country of origin, and many pieces from the 1990s onward also show season/year marks. Look for crisp lettering, quality finishing and well-aligned CC logos. Note that very early pieces may have different or minimal markings. At A Retro Tale, every item is thoroughly authenticated by our experts before listing.

Q: What do codes like 95A or 01P mean on Chanel jewellery?
A: These are season codes used on many Chanel pieces from the early 1990s onward. The numbers indicate the year, while the letter denotes the collection: P for Spring (Printemps), A for Autumn (Automne), C for Cruise, and V for a continuous line. Some mid-1980s to early-1990s items show collection numbers instead.

Q: Do clip-on earrings hurt to wear?
A: Fit is personal, but you can improve comfort by adding silicone comfort pads, ensuring the clip tension isn’t overly tight, and giving your lobes short breaks during long wear. Choosing hairstyles and clothing that won’t snag the earrings also helps with comfort and security.

Q: Can these clip-ons be converted to pierced posts?
A: Some jewellers can convert clip-ons, but altering vintage Chanel costume jewellery may affect integrity, value and collectability. Chanel’s in-boutique “earring adaptation” service applies to select fine jewellery styles; vintage costume pieces are generally not eligible. We recommend consulting a trusted jeweller before any modifications.

Q: How should I clean and care for them?
A: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after each wear. Avoid water, humidity, perfumes, hairspray and harsh cleaners, which can damage plating and stones. Store them in their box, away from direct sunlight and moisture, to preserve the finish.

Q: Are they heavy?
A: As a dangling design with the iconic CC motif, they have some presence on the ear. If you’re sensitive to weight, consider using comfort pads to distribute pressure. Please refer to the Measurements on this page to gauge the scale for your preference.

Q: What is included with this pair?
A: This item comes with a box. Any accessories included are always listed under the Accessories section on this page.
