ChanelCoco Mark Pin Brooch

Q: What is this Chanel Coco Mark Pin Brooch made of?
A: It is a Chanel costume jewellery piece crafted in gold-tone metal. Costume jewellery brooches from Chanel are not solid gold; Chanel reserves solid 18k gold for its Fine Jewellery lines. This piece features gold-tone hardware with a vintage finish.

Q: How big is it and how will it sit on clothing?
A: Approximate measurements are 6.5 × 7.5 × 0.3 cm. It wears as a statement brooch on a lapel, knit, scarf or hat without feeling overly heavy. For delicate fabrics, see the care and wearing tips below.

Q: How can I tell if a vintage Chanel brooch is authentic?
A: Many authentic vintage Chanel brooches have a small stamp or plate on the reverse; details vary by era. Look for high-quality casting and finishing, crisp lettering, and a smoothly working pin mechanism. As a trusted specialist, A Retro Tale conducts expert multi-point authentication on every piece and can provide additional close-ups on request.

Q: Will wearing a brooch damage my clothes?
A: Pins can leave tiny holes and may pull delicate weaves. Minimise risk by fastening through sturdier areas (lapels, coat fabrics, denim), adding a small felt patch on the inside as backing, rotating placement, or using a magnetic brooch adapter where suitable. Avoid very fine silks and open knits.

Q: Where else can I wear it besides a lapel?
A: Style it on knitwear, berets or hats, scarves, structured dresses, blazers, and even on a sturdy handbag strap or belt. If placing on softer knits or tees, reinforce from behind with a small piece of felt to support the weight.

Q: How should I clean and care for gold-tone Chanel costume jewellery?
A: After wear, gently wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Keep away from water, perfumes, lotions, cleaning agents and high humidity. Do not use jewellery dips or abrasive polishing cloths. Store individually in a pouch or box to avoid friction and scratches. Remove before rain or strenuous activity.

Q: The metal looks slightly dull in places—why?
A: Light surface wear or micro-tarnish is common with vintage gold-tone finishes and part of the piece’s character. This item is noted as Very Good Condition with hardware that has lost some shine. Gentle dry wiping is recommended; avoid liquids and abrasives.

Q: Can the pin mechanism be repaired or tightened if needed?
A: Many professional jewellers can adjust or replace a pin stem/closure on costume pieces. Re-plating of gold-tone finishes may be possible via specialist workshops, but outcomes vary by base metal and age. If you need assistance, contact us and we can advise reputable specialists.
