ChanelVintage Stone Coco Mark Brooch

Q: Is this Chanel Vintage Stone Coco Mark Brooch authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What is it made from? Is it solid gold and are the stones/pearl genuine?
A: Chanel costume jewellery is typically crafted from gold‑tone plated base metal. This piece is described with multicoloured poured‑glass stones (often associated with the Gripoix technique) and a central faux pearl. It is not solid gold and the pearl is imitation, in keeping with Chanel’s fashion jewellery heritage.

Q: What are the measurements and how noticeable is it when worn?
A: The brooch measures approximately 4.6 cm (height) x 4.6 cm (width) x 0.7 cm (depth). It offers a statement look without being overly heavy for most structured garments. If you’d like the exact gram weight or a photo on model for scale, just ask and we’ll provide it.

Q: How does it fasten and is it secure?
A: It features a pin‑back fastening. For extra security or to protect delicate fabrics, you can add a small brooch stopper or a backing disc on the inside of the garment to stabilise the pin.

Q: Where can I wear it—on coats, knits, scarves or bags?
A: Brooches are ideal on structured fabrics like wool coats, blazers, denim and canvas. On fine knits or silk, test in an inconspicuous spot and consider a backing disc to prevent pulls. If pinning to a handbag, go through a reinforced area or strap to avoid marking delicate leather.

Q: What hallmarks or stamps should I expect on a vintage Chanel brooch?
A: Many vintage Chanel pieces bear an oval or round plaque stamped CHANEL and the country of origin (often “Made in France”). From the early 1990s onward, many plaques also include a season/date code. Placement and format vary by era; please review our close‑up photos for the specific stamps on this piece.

Q: How should I care for the gold‑tone finish and glass stones?
A: Keep the brooch dry and avoid perfume, hairspray, lotions and hand sanitiser. After wear, gently wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Do not soak, use ultrasonic cleaners or chemical dips. Store it separately in a pouch or box to minimise friction and protect the stones and finish.

Q: Is it suitable for sensitive skin? Is there any nickel?
A: Fashion jewellery alloys and platings can contain nickel. If you have sensitivities, wear the brooch over clothing so it doesn’t touch the skin directly, consider a clear barrier product on contact points, and discontinue wear if irritation occurs. We’re happy to advise further if needed.

Q: Can it be repaired, replated or serviced?
A: A competent jeweller can often tighten or straighten the pin, replace a catch, and perform gentle replating if appropriate. Chanel boutiques may offer service at their discretion (policies vary by piece and era). Any alteration can affect originality and resale value—ask us for reputable specialists if needed.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included, and can I return it?
A: This brooch is in Very Good Condition with light signs of careful wear possible unless noted otherwise. This listing includes no accessories unless specifically shown or stated. Returns are accepted under our standard policy—please see our Returns page for eligibility, timeframes and conditions, and ensure the item is returned in the same condition received.
