HermèsEperon d'Or 42 Scarf

Q: What is the Hermès 42 ‘Eperon d’Or’ scarf?
A: It is a petite square accessory, measuring approximately 42 cm, featuring the iconic *Eperon d’Or* (Golden Spur) design. Unlike the classic silk Gavroche (45 cm), this 42 cm version is typically crafted in 100% cotton, serving as a sophisticated pocket square, handkerchief, or small neckerchief.

Q: What does the ‘Eperon d’Or’ design represent?
A: Created by renowned artist Henri d’Origny in 1974, this motif is a tribute to the equestrian heritage of Hermès. It depicts an intricate interlacing of spurs, stirrups, reins, and riding crops, inspired by the harness of the Cadre Noir de Saumur, France’s prestigious riding school.

Q: Is this scarf made of silk or cotton?
A: This specific piece is crafted from 100% cotton. Hermès cotton handkerchiefs are prized for their softness and durability, offering a matte texture that contrasts beautifully with silk ties or jackets when worn as a pocket square.

Q: How can I style a 42 cm square?
A: Its size is perfect for a pocket square in a suit jacket, offering a structured fold that stays in place. It can also be worn as a wrist wrap, a headband, or tied tightly around the neck for a chic, minimalist look. It also makes a charming accessory tied to the handle of a handbag.

Q: How should I wash and care for it?
A: While cotton is naturally washable, we recommend professional dry cleaning to maintain the crispness of the hand-rolled edges and the vibrancy of the colours. If you choose to hand wash, use cool water and gentle detergent, dry flat, and iron on a cotton setting.

Q: Does it feature hand-rolled edges?
A: Yes, like Hermès silk scarves, their cotton pocket squares and handkerchiefs typically feature hand-rolled, hand-stitched hems. The hem should roll towards the front side of the print, a hallmark of Hermès craftsmanship.
