HermèsCarré 90 Carpe Diem Silk Scarf

Q: What are the size and material of this Hermès Carré 90?
A: The Carré 90 is approximately 90 × 90 cm (about 34.8 × 34.8 inches) and crafted from 100% silk twill with hand‑rolled, hand‑stitched edges. As each piece is hand‑finished, slight variations in dimensions are normal.

Q: Is the Carpe Diem motif a vintage Hermès design, and who created it?
A: Yes. Carpe Diem is a vintage Hermès motif commonly attributed to Joachim Metz and originally issued in the mid‑1990s (c. 1994). Colourways and reissues can vary by season and market.

Q: What does “hand‑rolled edges” mean on a Hermès scarf?
A: Each edge is rolled by hand and secured with fine hand stitching, creating a plump, rounded finish. Subtle irregularities in the roll and stitch are normal indicators of artisanal work rather than defects.

Q: How should I clean and care for this scarf?
A: Hermès advises not to wash silk scarves. Entrust yours to a professional dry cleaner experienced with delicate silks, avoid contact with rain, water, perfumes or cosmetics, and handle the hand‑rolled edges gently.

Q: Can I hand‑wash a vintage Hermès scarf at home?
A: We recommend following the official guidance (dry clean only). Some collectors do hand‑wash at their own risk, but colour run, texture change and distortion of the rolled hems are possible, especially on older or saturated colours.

Q: How should I store the scarf to keep it in great condition?
A: Store it flat and untied in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. If folding, use light, acid‑free tissue between folds to minimise creasing and avoid hanging for long periods, which can stretch the silk.

Q: Will the colours transfer onto clothing or leather?
A: Printed silk can be affected by moisture and, particularly with older issues, some dyes may be less colourfast. Keep the scarf away from rain and humidity, and avoid prolonged contact with light‑coloured garments or leather when damp.

Q: What are some popular ways to wear a Carré 90?
A: Tie it at the neck (classic or double knot), style as a headscarf or bandana, fold as a belt, or wrap it around a bag handle. Hermès offers numerous knotting ideas to inspire different looks.

Q: How does A Retro Tale authenticate this Hermès scarf?
A: Every item is vetted by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks. Typical hallmarks of Hermès carrés include silk twill fabric, hand‑rolled and hand‑stitched edges, crisp screen‑printed motifs and a finely executed Hermès Paris mark. Machine‑stitched or overlocked edges are red flags—request additional photos or details any time.

Q: What accessories are included with this item?
A: This listing includes no accessories. Everything included is shown in the Accessories section; if a box, ribbon or other item is not listed there, it is not included.
