Louis VuittonMurakami Rita Bag

Q: What is the Louis Vuitton Murakami Rita bag?
A: The Rita is a structured, medium-sized handbag from the Takashi Murakami x Louis Vuitton Monogram Multicolore collection. Typical features include white Multicolore coated canvas, natural Vachetta leather trim, gold‑tone hardware, a top zip, a front pocket with push‑lock, a rear zip pocket and a red Alcantara‑lined interior with a slip pocket. It was produced in the mid‑2000s and is now discontinued, making pre‑owned pieces highly sought after.

Q: Is this collaboration still in production?
A: No. Louis Vuitton discontinued the Monogram Multicolore line in 2015. Murakami‑era Multicolore bags, including the Rita, are no longer made and are available only as vintage/pre‑loved pieces.

Q: How can I carry the Rita, and does this item include a strap?
A: It can be carried by the dual rolled top handles or worn on the shoulder with the detachable chain‑and‑leather strap. On this piece, the approximate handle drop is 14 cm and the strap drop is 26 cm, so it sits high on the shoulder for most and is generally not suited to crossbody wear.

Q: What typically fits inside?
A: As a compact‑to‑medium day bag, it comfortably holds a large smartphone, small to medium wallet, keys, sunglasses case and a small cosmetics pouch. The external pockets are useful for travel cards and receipts. Capacity depends on how you pack—please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact dimensions.

Q: What is Vachetta leather and how does it age?
A: Vachetta is an untreated, vegetable‑tanned leather designed to develop a honey patina over time. Because it is uncoated, it is sensitive to water and oils and can show watermarks and scuffs—common on vintage pieces. Care tips: avoid rain, wipe with a soft dry cloth after use and store in the dust bag away from heat and humidity.

Q: Is the white Multicolore canvas durable? Will it pick up colour transfer?
A: Louis Vuitton’s coated canvas is robust and easy to wipe clean. However, lighter colours can be susceptible to colour transfer from dark fabrics (for example, new denim) with prolonged friction. Minimise contact with dark textiles, especially when new, and store away from direct sunlight and moisture.

Q: Where is the date code and what if it’s faded?
A: On bags from this era, the date code is typically embossed on a small leather tab inside a pocket or stamped directly onto the Alcantara lining. Codes can fade with time and are not unique serial numbers—they simply indicate when and where the bag was made. Every item at A Retro Tale is authenticated via a comprehensive, multi‑point inspection beyond the date code alone.

Q: Is the Rita heavy to carry?
A: The Rita has substantial hardware and a structured build, so it feels more weighted than an unstructured canvas tote of a similar size, yet remains comfortable for everyday use when not overfilled.

Q: What accessories are included with this item?
A: This piece comes with a dust bag and a detachable shoulder strap, as listed under Accessories. If an accessory isn’t listed, it is not included.
