Christian DiorTrotter Bag

Q: What typically fits inside the Christian Dior Trotter Bag?
A: With approximate measurements of 33 × 22 × 12 cm, it comfortably holds a smartphone, long wallet, sunglasses case, keys, a small cosmetics pouch, a compact umbrella and a 500 ml water bottle. A slim 11-inch tablet can fit, though using a protective sleeve and not overfilling the bag will help the zip close smoothly.

Q: How is this bag carried and does it have a long strap?
A: The strap/handle drop is about 12 cm, so it is designed to be carried by hand or in the crook of the arm. It does not come with a detachable long shoulder or crossbody strap.

Q: Is the “Trotter” print the same as Dior’s “Oblique” monogram?
A: Yes, “Trotter” is commonly used in the resale and vintage community to describe pieces featuring Dior’s Oblique jacquard monogram. The Oblique motif was introduced in 1967 and became especially popular again in the early 2000s, making many “Trotter” pieces sought-after vintage today.

Q: Where can I find the Dior serial/date code and what does it mean?
A: On most Dior bags it is heat-stamped on the back of a small leather tag inside the bag (often in or near an interior pocket). Typical codes combine letters and numbers; the letters indicate the factory (for example, MA/BO for Italy, MC for Spain) and the last four digits encode the month and year of production. Formats may vary by era, especially on early 2000s pieces.

Q: How should I care for the jacquard canvas and leather trim?
A: Gently brush away dust, then spot clean the canvas with a soft cloth lightly dampened with lukewarm water and a mild soap. Keep leather trim dry and condition sparingly with a suitable leather conditioner. Avoid harsh chemicals and prolonged exposure to sunlight or humidity. Store the bag loosely stuffed in a breathable dust bag to help it keep its shape.

Q: Is the fabric water-resistant or prone to colour transfer?
A: Dior’s jacquard canvas is a woven fabric, not a waterproof coated canvas, so avoid heavy rain. As with most light fabrics and leathers, dark denim and richly dyed garments can transfer colour; minimise prolonged rubbing and consider wearing with lighter clothing to prevent dye transfer.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: This piece is offered as shown. Everything included is listed under the product information on this page. If a dust bag or card is not mentioned there, it is not included—please contact us if you would like us to confirm what is included.

Q: The description mentions a faint vintage scent—how can I reduce it?
A: Air the bag in a dry, shaded place and place odour-absorbing sachets (activated charcoal or baking soda) inside for 24–48 hours. Avoid perfumes or strong cleaners on the fabric or leather. For persistent odours, seek a professional handbag care service.

Q: How does A Retro Tale authenticate Dior bags?
A: Every item is vetted by our in-house experts using multi-point checks of materials, stitching, hardware, logos/stamps and serial/date codes. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and can provide additional details on request.
