Louis VuittonVernis Thompson Street Messenger Bag

Q: What size is this Louis Vuitton Vernis Thompson Street Messenger Bag?
A: This bag measures approximately 26 cm wide, 22 cm high and 2 cm deep, with a strap drop of approximately 30 cm. It is a slim vintage shoulder bag designed for light everyday essentials rather than bulkier items.

Q: What typically fits inside this bag?
A: The Thompson Street is best suited to compact daily essentials such as a phone, small wallet, keys, lipstick, cards and other slim items. As it has a narrow profile, it is not ideal for larger objects or anything bulky. Please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact dimensions.

Q: Is the strap adjustable?
A: Yes. This bag features a single adjustable shoulder strap, allowing you to fine-tune the drop for a comfortable shoulder carry.

Q: What material is Vernis leather, and is it delicate?
A: Vernis is Louis Vuitton’s glossy patent leather embossed with the Monogram pattern. It is known for its eye-catching shine and generally offers good resistance to light surface scratches, but it can still show marks, pressure dents and signs of age over time, especially on vintage pieces.

Q: Does Vernis leather get colour transfer or fading?
A: Yes, this is one of the most frequently asked questions about Vernis. The material can pick up colour transfer from dark denim, magazines, other leathers and similar items, and prolonged sunlight or heat may lead to fading or yellowing over time. Extra care is recommended when storing and wearing it.

Q: How should I care for this vintage Vernis bag?
A: Wipe it gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth if needed, avoid harsh cleaners and solvents, and store it in a cool, ventilated place away from direct sunlight and heat. It is also best not to overfill the bag, as that can affect its shape. Because this is a vintage item, gentle handling is especially important.

Q: What is the interior like?
A: This bag has a red leather lining and one internal pocket, along with a magnetic flap closure. Please note that the interior condition is listed as very good with slight peeling on the interior, which is reflected in the overall vintage condition.

Q: What condition is this bag in?
A: The overall condition is listed as Very Good Condition. More specifically, there are some marks on the strap, minor scratches to the exterior, slight peeling on the interior, and the hardware remains shiny with light scratches. We recommend reviewing all images carefully for the best impression of wear.

Q: Are any extras included with this bag?
A: No. According to the product information, this item comes with no accessories. If something is not listed under product information, it should be considered not included.

Q: How can I tell whether a vintage Louis Vuitton bag is authentic?
A: Authenticity should never be judged by one detail alone. For vintage Louis Vuitton bags, experts typically assess materials, construction, stamping, hardware, overall craftsmanship and, where applicable, the date code. At A Retro Tale, all items are professionally authenticated before sale.
