Saint LaurentMedium Niki Pony Hair Bag

Q: What typically fits inside the Saint Laurent Medium Niki?
A: With approximate measurements of 28 × 21 × 9 cm, the Medium Niki comfortably holds a large smartphone, a continental wallet, keys, slim sunglasses in a soft case, a small cosmetics pouch, and an A5 diary/notebook. A compact tablet or e‑reader (and many 9.7–11-inch tablets without a bulky case) may fit when placed horizontally under the flap. Capacity varies with case sizes—please compare your device to our Measurements or ask us for a tailored fit check for this exact piece.

Q: Can I wear it crossbody and is the strap adjustable?
A: The sliding chain‑link strap can be worn doubled on the shoulder or extended for shoulder/high crossbody wear. For this piece the strap drops are approximately 28 cm (doubled) and 50 cm (single). If you’d like advice on how it will sit on your frame, just let us know and we’ll guide you.

Q: How secure is the closure and what is the interior layout?
A: This Niki features a magnetic flap closure for quick access and everyday security. Inside, it has a black fabric lining with one internal zipped pocket to keep valuables organised. We recommend keeping the bag upright and using the zip pocket for small essentials while commuting.

Q: What exactly is “pony hair”—is it real horse hair?
A: In luxury leather goods, “pony hair” typically refers to hair‑on calf leather (also called calf hair), not horse hair. It’s cowhide with the hair left intact and finished for a velvety, directional texture.

Q: Is pony hair durable for everyday use? Will it shed or develop bald spots?
A: Hair‑on calf is beautifully tactile but best treated with a bit of care. With regular rotation and mindful use, it wears well; however, constant friction (on corners, the back against clothing, seat belts or where the chain rubs the flap) can, over time, cause flattening or localised hair loss. We suggest avoiding abrasive fabrics and heavy, daily rubbing to preserve the nap.

Q: How should I clean and care for the pony hair and leather trim?
A: Keep the bag dry and away from heavy rain. If lightly damp, blot gently (don’t rub) and allow to air‑dry away from heat. For routine care, use a clean, soft brush or cloth to remove dust, always moving in the direction of the hair. Avoid alcohol/acetone wipes and heavy waterproofing sprays; if you choose to use a protector, test first on an inconspicuous area. Store the bag upright, lightly stuffed, in a breathable dust bag, and keep the chain padded or tucked to prevent impressions and friction on the hair.

Q: Will it fit a long/continental wallet?
A: Yes—continental wallets generally fit comfortably alongside a phone and other daily essentials. If you share your wallet dimensions, we can confirm fit for this specific piece.

Q: How does the Medium compare to other Niki sizes?
A: The Medium is the go‑to everyday size—roomier than the Baby (compact/occasion‑friendly) and more manageable than the Large (work/travel‑leaning). It balances capacity and comfort while keeping the iconic Niki silhouette and sliding strap versatility.

Q: Where are the Saint Laurent markings and codes typically found?
A: Authentic Saint Laurent bags usually feature a “SAINT LAURENT PARIS” heat‑stamp and country of origin inside (this piece is labelled Made in Italy). A production/serial code is typically found on or behind an interior leather tag, or discretely within the lining; exact placement can vary by model and season. We’re happy to provide close‑up photos for this item on request.

Q: What accessories are included and how do you authenticate?
A: Everything included is listed under “Accessories.” For this listing, no accessories are noted. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously authenticated by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, stitching, hardware, stamps/codes and construction—we stand behind the authenticity of every piece we sell.
