ChanelMedium Caviar Kelly Handle Bag

Q: What typically fits inside the Chanel Caviar Kelly Handle Bag?
A: With approximate measurements of 25 × 19 × 8.5 cm, it comfortably holds a large smartphone, a small wallet or card holder, keys, a compact, lip balm, and slim sunglasses, plus a small notebook or e‑reader. Capacity varies with what you carry, so please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact sizing.

Q: Does this vintage Kelly top‑handle come with a shoulder strap?
A: No. This style was designed for hand carry and most vintage Kelly top‑handle variants were produced without strap attachments. The handle drop is approximately 10 cm, as listed in the Measurements.

Q: Is this bag vintage and what does the serial number 5210341 indicate?
A: Yes, it is a vintage piece. The 7‑digit 5‑series serial (beginning with “5”) corresponds to an estimated production window of 1997–1999, which aligns with the era of this model.

Q: How durable is Chanel caviar leather and how should I care for it?
A: Caviar is a pebbled calfskin prized for its structure and excellent resistance to surface scratches. Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth for light dirt, avoid harsh chemicals, nourish sparingly with a quality leather conditioner when needed, and keep away from prolonged moisture, heat, or direct sunlight. Store stuffed to maintain shape and allow the leather to breathe.

Q: What is the hardware finish and how do I look after it?
A: This bag features black‑toned metal hardware. To preserve the finish, avoid contact with abrasive surfaces and cosmetics, wipe gently with a dry microfibre cloth after use, and store with the turn‑lock closed to reduce friction. Fine hairline scratches from normal wear are expected on vintage pieces.

Q: What is the interior layout and closure like?
A: It has a flap top with a CC turn‑lock closure. Inside you’ll find black leather lining with one zipped pocket and one slip pocket for small essentials, plus an exterior slip pocket for quick access items.

Q: What is included with this item according to the product information?
A: An authenticity card is included. Everything that comes with the item is listed under product information on this page; if something isn’t listed there, it is not included.

Q: How does A Retro Tale authenticate this Chanel bag?
A: Every item undergoes multi‑point checks by our in‑house experts, including evaluation of materials and quilting, stitching, stamps, serial sticker, hardware, and overall construction, cross‑referenced with known period details. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell.

Q: How should I store the bag to keep its structure?
A: Empty and loosely stuff with acid‑free tissue, close the turn‑lock, and store upright in a breathable dust bag. Avoid hanging the bag by its handle and keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Q: Will a modern large smartphone fit?
A: Yes. Most flagship phones fit easily alongside daily essentials. If you use a particularly bulky case or organiser insert, allow a little extra space to ensure the flap closes without pressure.
